It ended with two historic doubles championships and Park’s first boys tennis state title. Park finished the regular season 2–6, but the record does not tell the full story. Four losses came by narrow 3–2 scores. Park was one court away from reversing its record and finishing 6–2. The team earned two 4–1 victories over St. Francis. Park’s developing doubles lineup contributed four wins across those matches and gained valuable experience throughout the season. At the top of the lineup, Aariz Qureshi finished 6–2 at first singles and Jackson Wake went 7–1 at second singles. Together, they gave Park a 13–3 regular-season singles record. ## The Dominant Duo Championship Park also hosted the Buffalo High School Dominant Duo Championship, bringing together leading public and private school programs from three Western New York leagues: ECIC, the Niagara Frontier League and Monsignor Martin. The event tested each two-player team in first singles, second singles and doubles. Aariz and Jackson combined to finish second against some of the area’s best high school players. ## A Historic Postseason Aariz and Jackson partnered to win the Monsignor Martin doubles championship, the first boys doubles title in Park School history. They then advanced to the CHSAA New York State Championships and won the state doubles title, earning Park’s first boys tennis state championship. Jackson was also named the Monsignor Martin Rookie of the Year after completing an outstanding first varsity season. He received his award at the end-of-the-year party. Aariz won MVP, Sam VanWey-Shapiro and Nolan Gencoe won Most-Improved Player awards and Fred Archer won newcomer of the year. The 2026 team included: Aariz Qureshi Jackson Wake Sam VanWey-Shapiro Nolan Gencoe Ridley Feige Van Stevenson Fred Archer Jeffrey Conrad Reid Blumberg Zain Syed Jamir Smith ## Building Tennis at Park The varsity season was one part of a much larger year for tennis at Park. Boys Tennis Coach Sajeel Qureshi and Girls Tennis Coach Jason Joseph combined to organize three summer tennis open houses for the Park and Western New York communities. One introduced students from Park’s Lower School to the sport. Another welcomed families from the Islamic Society of the Niagara Frontier. The third brought together green-ball players from Miller Tennis Center, Heim Elementary School and Heim Middle School for their own Dominant Duo competition. These events allowed children from different schools, communities and experience levels to play together on Park’s courts. Park also continued its winter tennis partnership with Village Glen for a second year. The program gives Park students an opportunity to keep playing and developing during Buffalo’s indoor season, connecting the fall and spring programs rather than limiting school tennis to a few weeks each year. In September, Park further supported high school tennis in Western New York by hosting the Monsignor Martin Girls Tennis Championship. From winter training and community open houses to varsity competition and championship events, Park continued building a year-round tennis culture in 2026. The boys varsity team’s final record was 2–6. The year ended with a Monsignor Martin doubles championship, a Rookie of the Year award and a New York State championship.
